A PhD fellowship is available in a project on extracellular vesicles as biomarkers of tissue-specific stress and inflammation in traumatic injury. The project is led by associate professor Claus VB Hviid and conducted in The CardioMetabolic and Biomedical Research Group at Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Aalborg University Hospital, Denmark. The fellowship is a fully funded, 3-year position.
Job descriptionYou will be part of a dynamic research environment focusing on diverse aspects of extracellular vesicle biology. The project is focused on isolation and characterization of nerve- and muscle-derived extracellular vesicles from blood samples from patients with major traumatic injuries. Your main task will therefore be laboratory work using advanced state-of-the-art methods such as high-resolution flowcytometry, immunocapture, ultra-sensitive protein analysis and, omics analysis. You are expected to perform all aspects of the research process including data -analysis, -interpretation, scientific writing and writing of applications as well as teaching and supervision of younger students.
Your will be supervised by a team of experienced researchers at regular meetings. The practical laboratory work will be supervised by experienced laboratory researchers, technicians and student colleagues. You are expected to acquire the ability to work independently in the laboratory during the fellowship. Participation in journal clubs, laboratory meetings and social scientific events are also considered part of the fellowship.
The applicant The applicant should hold a medical or biomedical master’s degree and have a profound interest in research. Prior research or laboratory working experience is an advantage but not a requirement. Since research is a team sport, the position requires excellent collaborative skills along with the ability to drive the project forward by organizing, planning, and executing relevant tasks. You should demonstrate persistence in your work, the ability to take ownership, problem solve and drive the progression of projects overall.
